Title: Social inclusion and recovery through participation in arts and sport: learning from projects in South London
Theme: Recovery and Social Inclusion
Abstract: South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) provides mental health and addictions services in four London Boroughs, serving a total population of approximately 1.25 million people.
The services that are provided in hospital and in community settings include a wide range of clinical interventions. In addition to these, there are many parallel innovative projects that aim to reach and support people using more creative approaches.
Some of the vehicles used to deliver these projects have included drama, dance, football, trapeze and surfing.
This presentation will explore some of the outcomes of these projects and try to identify key factors in their success.

Examples of involvement of experts by experience in the Czech Republic
In the Czech Republic there is a wide variety of programmes involving peer specialists. The presentation will shortly introduce two programmes of systematic peer involvement into the mental health system. So called peer consultants and peer lecturers will be presented. While peer consultants were fully integrated as members of mental health teams with specific role, peer lecturers were trained to be able to give lessons on topics like recovery or stigma and discrimination at the university. The author will speak about his own experience with these activities. His current position is a peer lecturer of university mental health courses and a journalist specialised in “media and mental health” topics.
